Two in One!
Here is my entry for the A is for Appetizer swap on swap-bot:
I wanted more of a Texas theme than how it turned out. I was thinking big hair, yellow roses, cadillacs, lone stars, etc. Of course, I couldn’t find anything like that. So it became a western theme. I don’t particularly care for the blue paper, but it’s the best I could find at the time. Did I mention that I live in the middle of Kansas? We make do.
And this is my entry for the B is for Beverage swap:
I think I truly ran out of inspiration for this swap. I wanted to focus on the Southern aspect, so I was looking for paper with huge roses, peonies, magnolias, or whatever would evoke a hot, humid summer day in Georgia with women swooning and men fanning themselves with their hats. I couldn’t find it. So instead I focused on the Sweet and couldn’t come up with anything that pleased me. This was the best one I made. Better luck next time. The color on this image is off. It’s more lime green than yellow.
Really though, I’m about to give up on swap-bot altogether. Remember the blood, sweat, and tears that I poured out over that Geek ATC? Well, I was supposed to receive 3 in return, and I’ve only gotten 1. It makes me sad. Not for me, but for swap-bot in general.
AND, I finally dropped out of the Anime Chibi ATC swap. I just couldn’t hang. Drawing is too stressful for me. I did manage to get one done, and then I couldn’t bear the thought of having to do 2 more. Here she is…it’s Chibi Kat!
(Kat was quite pleased at my rendering of her. “She’s so cute!” she squealed when she saw it. I turned it into a worry doll for her.)
I am such a geek!
Two weeks ago, I was taking a class at my local art center called “Make a Deck.” It was taught by my elementary school art teacher, Miss N (that’s what she asked us to call her in grade school, as her last name is really much longer than that.) It was a fun class, and I felt like I learned a lot about technique. However, my creativity was stifled. I think that I work much better when I have a direction to go in, or at least some form of structure. In this class, we just learned some techniques in the first hour of the class, then she said, “Okay! Go make some ATCs!” I just sat there. For hours and hours, I sat there. The people around me were all a-twitter with activity, and I couldn’t come up with a decent ATC to save my life. Oh well.
But I was already signed up for the Embrace Your Inner Nerd/Geek ATC swap on swap-bot, so when the class was over, I had to get busy. This was what I sent out on Monday night:
My first official ATC. I’m pretty pleased with how it came out, and I can’t wait to receive the others so that I can see what maybe I should have done differently. Now I’ve signed up for the Anime Chibi ATC swap. Why do I do this to myself? I had to look up what chibi was!
Chicken! Chicken! and More Chicken!
I mailed my recipe cards today for the Chicken! Chicken! swap, and what a relief that was. I had never scrapbooked anything, or even thought about it, but now I’m hooked!
Kat called me up at work one afternoon and said, “Mommy, I’m looking at swap-bot and found a swap I want you to join. All you have to do is send one chicken recipe to 5 people.” So I agreed to let her sign me up.
Later, I read the swap details and freaked out when I saw it was in the scrapbooking category. That is when the drama began. I have learned so much (and spent so much money; and irritated the nice ladies and the gentleman at the scrapbook shop with all my questions; and spent 2 weeks getting only 3 hours of sleep a night; and on and on) and it has been so much fun! I can’t wait for the A is for Appetizers swap to commence! Please join!
PS – I’m so proud of myself…I even made the envelope!
